Creating Custom Foundations Clips

Posted by Will in Foundations

Custom Midi Clips allow you to decide what Subdivisions will play for each Click.  This is useful if using multiple songs in a set and don’t want certain subdivisions for certain songs.  This keeps you from having to turn up and down the volume of  each subdivision. I.E. If you go from a slow song in 4/4 with some 8th’s and 16th’s turned up to a fast song in 6/8 your not going to want the 16th’s turned up and you may not want the 4th’s there either.  Instead of having to turn the volume of those down you can create Custom Midi Clips for those situations that only include the subdivisions you want… No more excessive knob twisting and turning!

  1. Each Time Signature has a set of Custom Clips included.  They include 4th’s, 8th’s, 16th’s, and an Accent Clip.  To build a custom midi clip start with the lowest subdivision you want.  I.E. if you want 8th’s and 16th’s start with 8th’s.
  2. Drag the lowest subdivision into Live’s Arrangement view.  You can drag the clip right into Arrangement View and the Foundations Instrument will auto load.
  3. Drag the next Subdivision you want to use to the right of your original clip.
  4. Double Click the Midi Clip to open up “Clip View” (at the bottom of your Live set)
  5. Select all the midi notes in that clip and cut or copy them.  I.E. If your using 8th’s and 16th’s then copy the 16th’s and paste them into the 8th’s clip.
  6. Go to your original Midi Clip and click the far left bracket in clip view, then paste your new set of midi notes.
  7. You’ll now have a midi clip with just the subdivisions you want.  You can export that midi clip and name it what you want.
