Music you should be listening to..Bells Edition?

Posted by Will in Chatter

This week’s Music you should be listening to features two bands that have to do with Bells.  They are both artists that should help your creative juices flow.  The songs and production are catchy and fun to listen to.  Check them out!

Treats-Sleigh Bells

Sleigh Bells - Treats

This is probably the most unique sounding CD I’ve heard all year.  It’s definitely the dirtiest CD I’ve heard (not in an inappropriate sense!)  Imagine running your mastered drum tracks through Reason’s Scream Distortion, dropping the bit rate and then having catchy vocals on top.  You can’t really describe this CD.  It’s definitely not “Easy Listening” but its one worth hearing.  At the time of writing this it’s only 6.99 so just go get it and you’ll understand what I’m talking about!

Broken Bells-Self Titled

O?Death - Broken Bells

You’ve probably heard this CD before and didn’t even realize it.  If you’re REALLY a worship leader (or church planter) then you’re required once a week to “work” from Starbucks and tweet a picture of your Venti hot drink (using your iPhone) with the phrase, “Here’s my office for the day”.   That being the case Starbucks was killing this CD for a few weeks, so you’ve probably heard it!  It’s an incredibly catchy CD that is part Hip Hop, part Rock, but incredibly catchy.  It’s one you’ll easily be able to turn on while working (probably at Starbucks, none the less!)

So put down your Venti Vanilla Latte and go pick these up!

Meh. I haven’t been impressed with Sleigh Bells yet, even though I like most of their “similar artists” or some such. Just doesn’t seem that enjoyable….

As for Broken Bells… it’s pretty good. Certainly not the best thing I’ve heard this year by any means, but enjoyable and sometimes clever. I’d give a B+.

As for Starbucks… find a real coffee shop ;-)
