In Christ Alone by Owl City
If you haven’t heard this song and read this post yet, stop what you’re doing and listen now. As you’re listening read the words that Owl City’s Adam Young wrote. If his post doesn’t sum up the feelings of a Christian living in this world I don’t know what does (okay besides, the Bible and Paul…). Check out some of what Adam said in his post:
“As I’m so often reminded what a priceless gift my life is, I ache with everything in me to make it count, so that when I finally cross the finish line, I’ll hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
To me, there is no greater reward.
Of course, all of this weighs heavily on the spiritual scale, so allow me to be completely honest and say none of it is intended to be “crammed down the throat,” if you will. That is not my intention. This is what I wholeheartedly believe, and to that belief, I remain steadfast until He returns or calls me home.
One thing is certain:
When He comes for His own, He will have no trouble recognizing me… because my banner will be clear.”

What I really appreciate about Adam Young is that he makes good music. I’m not concerned with whether Christian radio plays it or not, or if you can buy his cd at Lifeway or not. He seems more sure of his calling and the importance of the message he’s bringing than a lot of CCM artists out there. And his music is just so dang enjoyable to listen to. Sure, the songwriters say it’s too “produced” and the electronic musicians say it’s “too mainstream”, but we’ve all enjoyed it. Like it or not, it’s freaking fun, enjoyable music to listen to. And even more so, the phrase (which does more to hurt “Christian” music then help it) “It’s pretty good for Christian music” doesn’t come up. I’d encourage you to rid that phrase from your vocabulary. Is it good or not? If it claims the tag of “Christian” then I would in fact judge it more intensely then if it isn’t “Christian”.
Take a listen to the song on the blog and read his words. It helps put it all back into perspective. Whether you’re a full time Worship Pastor, or a volunteer musician…
