I love how you've stated the need more creativity and exploration of music for worship! I recently began a new position leading music for worship and ran into some folks who felt worship was limited to the C. Tomlin songbook.
Awesome challenge to worship leaders to try to push out of their comfort zone!

Great post. I'm at a place where we are still learning and trying to make this work. I still need more technical training although I've learned lots on my own.

We certainly suffer from the lack of flow in our worship sets, but I've also seen an effort by our worship leader to "flow" the songs better. Seems to work really nice when the songs happen to be on the same key.

Hey man, great post. This a lot of the
stuff that we have tackled in the band.(bluetree) I have been djing in clubs for years and obviously been with bluetree for about 5 and a bit yrs now. With the advances in technology and more open creative minds there should be no reason to see a bigger integration of the digital world in the worship world. I know for us ableton was a revolution, it made everything really open and easy to run with when leading worship especially in those open times when people are praying or reflecting.
I think a big thing is that people get scared of something new. I know with my church, my youth band was going through some difficulty as the only guy who played acoustic guitar left. I pushed them in the direction of programming, ableton, synth and loops etc.. there is 2 female vocals, 2 guys on synths, 1 of them running ableton and the other playing piano to. They played there before i left to go on tour and it was one of the freshest and coolest thing ive heard.
I think this transition really needs to happen, to connect with a generation that are bombarded with electronic music. Then they come to church and dont connect in worship because the flow isnt what they are used to, the sound isnt what they like etc. This obviously opens the debate of entering into worship isnt about the music, which i totally agree with, but the music certainly plays a part. Not a large part but a part.
Lets keep asking questions and moving forward creatively. Good work.

Some of the teams at IHOP-KC really exploit the usage of computers & loops in their worship sets, especially the intercession sets. Dave Sliker also uses electronic music for background to his preaching.

I totally agree with the concept of "flow" in worship. I think so many worship sets lack "flow" because the CD's do.

Worship leaders, you're not a cover band. Don't do it just like the CD does it.
